Employers Value Paid Work Experience

14 Mar 2017

A recent survey from the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) reports that employers value skills acquired through paid work experience.

The report released Tuesday 14 March revealed that half (49%) of employers believe that graduates don’t have the skills expected of them at the point of hiring.

On average they reported that a quarter of their graduate intake are inexperienced with or lacking essential soft skills. For nine out of 10 key soft skills, employers said that the best time to learn them is outside of university.

The workplace was commonly perceived as the best place to learn to manage-up, deal with conflict, negotiate and develop commercial awareness soft skills. Resiliency was the only skill employers felt was best developed at university.
